WEST AFRICA CRISIS
ILLITERACY AND POVERTY INTERLINKED
The Jallow Foundation, The Gambia are a Charity set up to aleviate poverty and hardship in The Gambia, West Africa, particularly in the provinces where poverty and hardship are at their worst.
Families are in a daily struggle to survive, so if it is a choice between feeding your family and sending children to school there is no choice. Consequently there are a lot of illiterate adults whose parents could not afford to send them to school and who subsequently unable to find any employment or send their own children to school.
ILLITERATE CHILDREN BECOME ILLITERATE ADULTS WHOSE CHILDREN THEN GROW UP TO BECOME ILLITERATE ADULTS AND SO THE CIRCLE OF POVERTY CONTINUES FROM GENERATION TO GENERATION.
Recently The Jallow Foundation, The Gambia undertook a survey in just one District of The Gambia and 770 illiterate adults came forward wanting to learn to read and write. An Adult Literacy Project submitted to Global Giving was accepted but it is necessary for The Jallow Foundation to raise £2,000 from 50 donors by 2nd May 2012 in order to obtain a permament place on the Global Giving website. To obtain such a place would mean that the Charity can raise the money necessary to provide an Adult Literacy Course for these 770 adults, with the hope being that the course can be subsequently rolled out in other districts of The Gambia, helping thousands of illiterate adults.

PLEASE HELP THE CHARITY REACH THE TARGET.
People in The Gambia want to provide for themselves and their families but extreme poverty is preventing them. Enabling people to read and write is one way in which they can be helped to help themselves and the circle of poverty stopped from going from one generation to another.
THANK YOU FOR TAKING THE TIME TO READ THIS.
